The Bottom Line:
My name is Brandon Kraft and I write a blog.
I am a 20-something father who is doing his best trying to make everything work in my life.
These pages chronicle my journey.
I am a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and serve as the 2010-2013 Trustee for Council 12409 at The University of Texas at Austin.
I am a patron member of the Civil Air Patrol–basically a donor since my schedule does not allow me to be actively involved.
I have been educated, most recently, at The University of Texas at Austin, earning a Bachelor of Arts. My major was sociology, but I found my minor, “Science, Technology and Society” much more interesting. STS was not offered as a major in my time and, to my knowledge, does not exist as a minor at UT anymore, although some bridging discipline programs fulfill the same basic area. I am a member of the Texas Exes, the alumni association for UT-Austin.
Someday, I would like to study the convergence of technology and society more in-depth. Examining how modern technologies–everything from the printing press in its time to Facebook/social networking today–has and continue to influence and change society is extremely interesting. As a self-professed techy, I like fiddling with all things electronic, but is the electronic option always the best? What do we lose, intentionally or not, by the transition. How does that change how we interact with each other? How to we retain knowledge with these new technologies? When you can find seemingly all knowledge on the Internet accessible within seconds, why “learn” anything? These questions I really find interesting.
